My thoughts today are totally geared to the upcoming holiday – I love Thanksgiving. I have so many great memories of crazy family gatherings with food, laughter, after-dinner games (usually Trivial Pursuit), along with a general sense of wellness and contentment.
There’s only one thing that puzzles me about this holiday and our family tradition...
“Why, Mom, why did you always make the orange jello with carrot shavings suspended in it. Ugh!” Did anybody else have this or was this something unique to our family? I hope it was only us, ‘cause I wouldn’t wish it on anyone else. Was it a way to make sure we got our veggies in…by ruining what was otherwise a completely palatable dessert to me at the time? Did the fact that there were 8 kids running around, most likely fighting as kids do, distract you, and you accidentally threw some carrots in with the jello and then it just became “tradition”? I don’t know, but I can’t tell you how much time I spent picking out the carrot shavings to get to the good stuff.
Today, I’m grateful to be spending Thanksgiving with Mom this year, so I’ll ask her.
